Urgent Items Needed – Help Us Support Families in Crisis
Every day, families across Shropshire turn to Little Stars for help – and we are only able to respond because of the generous donations from people like you. The items you give become lifelines. They bring comfort to newborns, confidence to children and compassion to parents doing their best in very difficult times.
Thank you for considering a donation to Little Stars. Before donating, please take a moment to review our list of unaccepted items and also check our wish list. We kindly ask that all donations be clean, in good condition, and in full working order.
Wish list
Each month, we update our wish list to indicate the items most needed to support the children and families referred to us. Only those items can be accepted at that time. If you have something you would like to donate that does not appear on our wish list, please get in touch with us.
Items we CANNOT accept:
Baby nests
Due to risk of suffocation we do not provide baby nests to families and therefore cannot accept them as donations.
Cot bumpers
We do not accept cot bumpers due to the risk they can cause a baby and young child.
Cot bumpers can pose a risk of accidents once a baby starts to roll and move about in their cot. Infants can get tangled in the ties and fabric or fall after pulling themselves up on the bumpers.
Bedroom furniture including changing tables
Due to storage and transport we cannot accept large items such as bedroom furniture and changing tables. These are not classed as essential items that we can provide to families.
Perishables ie. Formula and baby food
We do not accept formula or baby food unless it has been donated by a supermarket.
Underwear
For hygiene reasons we can only accept underwear if it is brand new.
Bottles, teats, sippy cups, teethers and dummies
For hygiene reasons we can only accept these items if brand new.
Car seats
We follow the Lullaby Trust’s advice not to accept second hand car seats.
This is due to safety concerns as even if they have a full history or seem to be in good condition the wear and tear over time can affect the safety of a car seat, making it unsafe for babies.
Additionally, used car seats may not comply with the latest child car seat laws and safety regulations. We will only ever accept car seats if they are brand new.
Mattresses
We follow the Lullaby Trust’s safe sleeping advice to provide new mattresses to babies and children. This is to ensure hygiene and health and safety standards are maintained.
Bedside cribs
To ensure the safety of the babies we support we cannot accept second hand bedside cribs.
We provide moses baskets for children aged 0 – 6mths and cots/cotbeds for children 6mths +
