Celebrating our recent funding successes

We are pleased to share two recent funding successes. Thanks to the generosity of these two funders, we will be able to provide safe sleeping equipment and essential home safety items to some of the most vulnerable babies and young children across Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin.

The Haberdashers’ Company

We are delighted to have received a grant of £5,000 from The Haberdashers’ Company for the third year running; a real testament to the trust they have placed in us as an organisation.

This year, the funding will support our Early Years Essentials Project, helping us provide moses baskets, cots, and cot beds to babies and young children in Telford and Wrekin who need safe sleeping equipment. The grant will also allow us to provide stairgates, helping families protect their little ones from avoidable dangers in the home.

By providing these essentials, we will help families create safe, nurturing environments for their growing children.

About The Haberdashers’ Company

By supporting the communities that surround Haberdasher schools and churches, the Company’s grant-making is fundamental in fulfilling its purpose to “empower young people from every background to fulfil their potential through our schools and by supporting their communities.”

The Haberdashers’ Benevolent Foundation supports charities that address the disadvantage experienced by young people in their schools. It funds work with 0–5-year-olds, young people who experience disadvantage (social mobility), young people with experience of custody and young people who experience homelessness.

Their grant-making is therefore underpinned by listening to the communities they serve, and the charities that work with them. They appreciate that the experts are those rooted in those places, living and working there.

B&Q Foundation

We are also thrilled to have been awarded a £5,000 grant from the B&Q Foundation to fund Home Starter Kits for the children and families we support.

A lot of the children we support have been forced to flee their homes and are living in temporary accommodation that lack safety provisions.

During this turbulent time for the sole care giver, these critical items can be overlooked and are an expense beyond their means. In addition to this, the ongoing cost of living crisis is placing huge financial strain on families, forcing them to make difficult choices between heating, food, and their children’s safety.

By providing home starter kits consisting of essential safety equipment such as stairgates, cupboard locks, and drawer latches we will help to create safer home environments where young children can explore, play and grow without unnecessary danger. These simple interventions can prevent serious injuries and offer families peace of mind, while supporting the broader goal of safeguarding children’s wellbeing during the most critical early years of life.

About the B&Q Foundation- Home Starter Kit Grants

The funding is intended for UK charities working to improve the lives of people in need by supporting projects that make homes safe, welcoming, and comfortable.

Grants support home starter kits to help individuals and families facing homelessness, domestic abuse, disabilities, illness, or financial hardship to feel more settled and supported in their living spaces. Applications are managed through Neighbourly.

Funding like this makes an enormous difference to what we are able to offer the families who need us most. We are deeply grateful to both The Haberdashers’ Company and the B&Q Foundation for their generous support and their belief in the work we do.
