Keeping Children Warm This Winter, thanks to Morrisons Foundation
We’re delighted to share that Little Stars has been awarded a generous £10,000 grant from the Morrisons Foundation to support our Keeping Children Warm This Winter project.
As household budgets continue to be stretched, more families are turning to us for help. In the first half of 2025 alone, demand for our service has risen by 25%, with many parents struggling to provide suitable winter clothing and essential items to keep their children safe and warm.
This grant will allow us to provide coats, warm clothing, bedding, and winter essentials to children experiencing financial hardship in Shropshire including Telford and Wrekin. Each bundle will also include a thermometer and an information leaflet on Sepsis, giving families tools to protect their children’s health.
The difference this project makes
Keeping warm in winter is about far more than comfort. It has a meaningful and lasting impact on a child’s wellbeing:
- Better physical health:
Proper winter clothing helps protect children against colds, flu and respiratory illnesses. Having a thermometer and clear guidance offers parents reassurance and potentially life-saving information.
- Improved school experience:
Children who arrive at school warm and dry feel more comfortable, confident and ready to learn. Less distraction from the cold can improve concentration, attendance and overall academic engagement.
- Support for emotional wellbeing:
Feeling warm and cared for reduces stress and anxiety, helping children settle better at night and benefit from the quality sleep they need for healthy development.
- Opportunities to play and grow:
Warm, waterproof clothing means children can participate in outdoor play and creative activities: experiences that build social skills, resilience and imagination.
- Relief for families:
These essentials help ease financial pressure, providing parents with breathing space to focus on other important areas of family life.
Thanks to the Morrisons Foundation, we can reach more children who would otherwise face the winter months without the basics they need to stay warm, safe and well.
“This support from the Morrisons Foundation couldn’t have come at a more crucial time. The families we’re helping are doing everything they can, but many simply can’t afford the warm clothing and essentials their children need. This funding means we can step in quickly with practical help that keeps children healthy, confident and able to enjoy a happier winter.”

We are deeply grateful for this partnership and the positive impact it will have across our county. Together, we can help children feel safe, warm and supported throughout the coldest months of the year.
