Easing the School Uniform Burden: Join Our Back-to-School Ready Campaign
The start of a new school year should be a time of excitement, but for many families, it brings financial stress due to the high cost of school uniforms. Let’s look at the financial burden families face and how our Back-to-School Ready campaign aims to ease this pressure.
The Financial Burden of School Uniforms
The average cost of a secondary school uniform is around £290, and for primary school uniforms, it is approximately £130. These costs include essential items like blazers, shirts, trousers/skirts, PE kits, and footwear.
The Emotional and social Impact

Can you remember your first day of school? The anticipation of making new friends, wondering about your new teachers, and hoping you’d be in the same class as someone you know?
Now, imagine facing these anxieties without the right uniform. Many children feel self-conscious and out of place when they have to wear ill-fitting or inadequate clothing because their families can’t afford new uniforms. This stress can significantly impact their confidence and willingness to engage in school activities.
The Back-to-School Ready Campaign
Our Back-to-School Ready campaign will run throughout Shropshire and seeks to ensure that children of primary and secondary school ages have the essential items they need, by distributing uniforms through community hubs and referrals from health professionals and schools. With your support, we can make a significant difference in children in our community and ensure they start the school year with confidence.
