Sal’s Shoes Donates 96 Pairs of Shoes to Little Stars’ Cool for School Campaign

We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Sal’s Shoes,(https://salsshoes.com/)  who have generously donated 96 pairs of new shoes through their school shoes project, to our Cool for School campaign.

This support is invaluable to our school uniform service and will make such a difference to the children and families we assist.

In the UK, 4.2 million children live in poverty, and due to rising financial strain, an estimated 1.7 million attend school in ill-fitting, unclean, or incorrect clothing. In Shrewsbury, 29% of children live in poverty, in Ludlow and North Shropshire, 31%, and in Telford and Wrekin, a staggering 38%.

Through our Cool for School campaign, we strive to ensure children of primary and secondary school ages have the essential items they need to fit in with their peers, and aim to remove one of the potential barriers for children attending school.

The average cost of purchasing a full school uniform in the UK is £230.40 and 41% of parents are buying a full uniform for their children every school year. School shoes are one of the most expensive school items parents must purchase, and until now we’ve been unable to fulfil all the requests we receive for shoes.

Sal’s shoes are a UK based charity sending preloved shoes across the world. In their first year they collected nearly 5,000 pairs of shoes. 10 years on, they have now found new feet for over 5,000,000 pairs of Sal’s Shoes in 61 countries, including increasingly here in the UK. Through their school shoes fund, generously donated to by the public, they purchase new shoes at a discounted rate, distributing them to children in need.

Referrals to our school uniform service can be made by professionals such as teachers, pastoral staff, family support workers and social workers. Please visit our Cool for School page (https://www.littlestarscharity.org/campaigns/cool-for-school/)  for more details.
